The "Cream" or Coarse filter mat is the most popular BIOLOGICAL filtration media. It is available in 1.25" and 2.0" thicknesses. The 2.0" material is used exclusively in virtually all US manufactured pond skimmers and waterfall units. The open character of this media allows for high volumes of water to pass through without clogging while providing optimal surface area to facilitate bacterial colonization. The total surface area of this material is 49.6 square foot per foot of material.
The Green and Black are the two most popular MECHANICAL Filters. Their relative medium density allows for optimum particulate removal while maintaining an adequate water flow. This translates into high efficiency filtration without having to clean the pad too often.
