Colocasia esculenta—the standard Green Taro (or classic Elephant Ear)—is the quintessential tropical focal plant for water garden design. While its hybrid cousins like ‘Coal Miner’ and ‘Black Magic’ offer dark moody tones, the wild-type Green Taro brings a bright, classic, lush chartreuse to emerald-green tropical canopy straight to your pond line. 

Its enormous, velvety, heart-shaped leaves can grow up to 2 feet long, uniquely drooping downward toward the water rather than pointing up into the sky.
