Cyperus alternifolius ‘Gracilis’ - Dwarf Umbrella Palm

Cyperus alternifolius ‘Gracilis’, commonly known as the Dwarf Umbrella Palm or Dwarf Umbrella Sedge, is a compact, highly versatile evergreen perennial sedge. A scaled-down cultivar of the classic Umbrella Palm, it typically tops out at a manageable 1 to 2 feet (30 to 60 cm) tall, making it far more suitable for small water features, container gardens, and indoor spaces than its giant relatives.

The plant forms dense, tight clumps of slender green stalks, each crowned by a perfectly symmetrical, radiating whorl of narrow bracts that look exactly like the ribs of a tiny green umbrella.

Like other Cyperus varieties, it is a moisture-loving plant. It thrives in boggy soil or submerged in shallow water up to 2 to 4 inches deep. If grown on land or indoors, the soil must never be allowed to dry out; keep the growing container sitting in a permanent saucer or water tray filled with fresh water.
