Dichromena colorata (syn. Rhynchospora colorata)—most commonly known as Star Grass, White Star Sedge, or Starrush Whitetop—is a highly ornamental, grass-like perennial. Despite its common name, it is actually a member of the sedge family (Cyperaceae) rather than a true grass. 
Its most striking feature is its unique "flowers." The true blossoms are tiny and insignificant, but they are surrounded by 5 to 6 long, dramatic, flashy white bracts with pointed green tips that radiate outward like a star. Because these are tough leaf bracts rather than delicate flower petals, they are incredibly long-lasting—keeping your shoreline decorated with bright white stars from late spring all the way into autumn.
