Echinodorus ‘Red Flame’ Swordplant

The Echinodorus ‘Red Flame’ Swordplant is a direct hybrid relative of the Red Melon Sword (E. schlueteri 'Leopard' x E. barthii). While the Red Melon Sword matures into a uniform dark green with solid reddish crowns, the 'Red Flame' is famous for its flame-like marbling—its wide, pale green leaves are covered in dense, permanent blood-red speckles, splotches, and stripes. 

When cultivated at a pond's edge, it makes a breathtaking centerpiece marginal plant that transitions beautifully into its emersed form.

Sunlight Requirements: To pull out the deep, dense red marbling that gives the plant its name, place it in full sun to bright, partial shade. If kept in heavy shade, the red spots will fade, and the plant will become dominantly green.
