Tulbaghia violacea 'Variegata' - Variegated Society Garlic

Tulbaghia violacea 'Variegata' (commonly known as Variegated Society Garlic) is a tough, highly ornamental clumping perennial native to South Africa. A member of the Amaryllidaceae family, it is widely used in landscaping for its striking cream-striped foliage and its ability to thrive in hot, dry conditions, though it also performs beautifully in wet, marshy bog zones. It earned the name "Society Garlic" because, while it smells strongly of garlic when the leaves are crushed, eating it is historically said to leave no lingering bad breath.

The Flowers: From late spring through late autumn, tall, slender stalks rise high above the foliage, topped with rounded umbels of 8 to 20 sweet-scented, star-shaped, pale violet-lavender blossoms.

Natural Pest Repellent: The entire plant emits a pungent garlic aroma when bruised or brushed against. This scent acts as an effective, natural deterrent against deer, rabbits, and garden pests.
